Magnaflux is a method of testing a ferrous metal for damage by magnetising the material and observing the surface to detect cracks. As easily as we can scan iron or steel, shouldn’t we all try to examine our inner selves for cracks and defects?
This project was about healing a personal trauma of working for an industry that I’ve mentally disassociated myself from, which can’t really be explained in terms of materiality, because it was lived and experienced within. And these are things that we have to deal with ourselves, knowing that we have to go the extra mile internally to overcome spiritual suffering. Through the release of my process and expression in this project, I may be able to help others on their sonic journey into their own long, dark and uncomfortable road to their inner world.
The artwork was created by myself after waking from having a vivid colorful dream of a piece of art. So I used a photograph I took that day of some moss. I manipulated the photo into a textured background using various techniques & apps on my phone and mac. The shape object was drawn with pen and paper before being converted into a 3D asset and covered with a steel-like surface using substance designer.
